唐张钟馗
[20] [13] Táng [Dynasty’s] Zhāng Zhōngkuí
钟馗，杀鸡为业。
Zhōngkuí, [was with] killing chickens as [his] livelihood.
忽见一人著绯，驱群鸡来，叫云：「啄！啄！」
Suddenly, [he] saw a person wearing crimson [red], herding [a] flock [of] chickens coming, calling [out], ‘Peck! Peck!’
四畔上啄，两目血流，受大痛苦。
[From the] four sides, [they flew] up [to] peck [him, as his] two eyes [had] blood flowing, [with him] receiving great pain [and] suffering.
有僧为铺佛像，烧香念阿弥陀佛，兼令钟馗一心专念。
[There] was [a] monastic, [who] for [him] laid [out a] Buddha image, burnt incense [and] recited Āmítuófó[‘s name], simultaneously leading Zhōngkuí [to] wholeheartedly focus [on] recitation.
忽香气满室，安然而终。
Suddenly, fragrance filled [the] room, [as he] peacefully then departed.
