[70] 为什么不能现生断惑证真而又不仗佛力者则非愚即狂？
[70] Why Those Not Able [To, In This] Present Life, Sever Confusions [And] Realise [The] True, Yet Also Not Relying On [The] Buddha’s Power, Then [If] Not Foolish, [Are] Thus Mad?
◎ 净土乃特别法门，全仗佛力。若能现生断惑证真，不仗佛力，亦不为过，若不能，则非愚即狂也。今之大通家，类皆如是。哀哉！
◎ [Summary]: [The] Pure Land [Dharma Door] [净土法门] [is] thus [the] Special Dharma Door, [that] completely relies on [the] Buddha’s power. If able [to, in this] present life, sever confusions [and] realise [the] true, not relying on [the] Buddha’s power, [this] also is not [a] mistake. If not able [to], then [if] not foolish, [is] thus mad. [Of] those present great [and] extensive ‘experts’, [their] kinds [are] all like this. Alas!
然听经如为修持净业，发明自力他力之所以然，则其利大矣。
However, if listening [to] sutras for practising pure karmas, [which] clarify [on] the reasons why [there are] self-power [and] other-power, then [are] its benefits great.
若止求通达教义，不以净土为事，则断惑证真，恐无此力，带业往生，又以不生信愿，虽有佛力，莫由依仗，则成有因无果之业识茫茫人耳。
If only seeking [to] thoroughly understand teachings’ meanings, not with [the] Pure Land [Dharma Door] [净土法门] for practice, then [for] severing confusions [and] realising [the] true, [it is] feared [that one is] without this power. [For] bringing karmas [to be] reborn [in Pure Land], moreover with not giving rise [to] Faith [and] Aspiration, although having [the] Buddha’s power, not following [and] relying on [it], then becoming [a] person [with] karmic consciousness boundless, who has [the] cause without [the] fruit only.
须知一代所说，皆属自力法门，乃通途教理。净土乃特别法门，全仗佛力。
[It] should [be] known [that] those [other teachings in the Buddha’s] one lifetime spoken, all belonging [to] self-power’s Dharma Doors, [are] thus [with] common teachings’ principles. [The] Pure Land [Dharma Door is] thus [the] Special Dharma Door, [that] completely relies on [connecting self-power to the] Buddha’s power.
若能现生断惑证真，不仗佛力，亦不为过。不能现在断惑证真，而又不仗佛力，则非愚即狂也。
If able [to, in this] present life, sever confusions [and] realise [the] true, without relying on [the] Buddha’s power, [this] is also not [a] mistake. [If] not able [to] presently sever confusions [and] realise [the] true, yet also not relying on [the] Buddha’s power, then [if] not foolish, [is] thus mad.
今之大通家，类皆如是。哀哉！
[Of] those present great [and] extensive ‘experts’, [their] kinds [are] all like this. Alas!
