必然偈
Verses On That Certain
缺德凡夫者，以极恶之业，
阿鼻自然成，堕得无间苦。
For those ordinary beings, who lack meritorious virtues (功德), with the utmost evil of karmas, the Avīci Hell (地狱) naturally forms, with it fallen into, obtaining uninterrupted suffering.
满德弥陀佛，以极诚之愿，
极乐必然成，升得无量寿。
Of that Āmítuófó (阿弥陀佛: Amitā[bha] Buddha), who has perfect and complete (圆满) meritorious virtues, with the utmost sincere of his forty-eight great vows (四十八大愿), his Western Pure Land Of Ultimate Bliss (西方极乐世界) has certainly formed, with it ascended, attaining immeasurable life.
