佛言：『何等为二十四愿者？』
[The] Buddha said, ‘What are those twenty-four vows?’
『一、我作佛时，令我国中，无有地狱、禽兽、饿鬼、蜎飞蠕动之类，得是愿乃作佛，不得从是愿，终不作佛。
‘[1] First, when I become [a] Buddha, [I will] cause my land within, [to] not have hell-[beings], birds, beasts, hungry ghosts, kinds of larvae, flying [and] wriggling [beings]. Attaining this vow, thus becoming [a] Buddha, not attaining following [of] this vow, [to the] end not becoming [a] Buddha.

二、我作佛时，令我国中人民，有来生我国者，从我国去，不复更地狱、饿鬼、禽兽、蠕动。有生其中者，我不作佛。
[2] Second, when I become [a] Buddha, [I will] cause [the] people within my land, those [who] come [to be] born [in] my land, [and] from my land going, [to] not again [be] hell-[beings], hungry ghosts, birds, beasts, [and] wriggling [beings. If there] are those born within them, I [shall] not become [a] Buddha.

三、我作佛时，人民有来生我国者，不一色类金色者，我不作佛。
[3] Third, when I become [a] Buddha, [if] those people [who] come [to be] born [in] my land, [are] not those [with the] one colour’s kind [of] golden colour, I [shall] not become [a] Buddha.

四、我作佛时，人民有来生我国者，天人世间人有异者，我不作佛。
[4] Fourth, when I become [a] Buddha, [if] those people [who] come [to be] born [in] my land, those heavenly beings [and the] world’s humans have differences, I [shall] not become [a] Buddha.

五、我作佛时，人民有来生我国者，皆自推所从来生本末。所从来十亿劫宿命，不悉知念所从来生，我不作佛。
[5] Fifth, when I become [a] Buddha, those people [who] come [to be] born [in] my land, [will] all naturally deduce [the] places [they have] come [to be] born from, [from the] beginning [to the] end. [Of those] places came from, [if with] ten koṭis’ kalpas [of] past lives, not all knowing [and] remembering [the] places [they have] come [to be] born from, I [shall] not become [a] Buddha.

六、我作佛时，人民有来生我国者，不悉彻视，我不作佛。
[6] Sixth, when I become [a] Buddha, [if] those people [who] come [to be] born [in] my land, [do] not all [have] pervasive sight, I [shall] not become [a] Buddha.

七、我作佛时，人民有来生我国者，不悉知他人心中所念者，我不作佛。
[7] Seventh, when I become [a] Buddha, [if] those people [who] come [to be] born [in] my land, [do] not all know other persons’ minds within, [with] that thought, I [shall] not become [a] Buddha.

八、我作佛时，我国中人民，不悉飞者，我不作佛。
[8] Eighth, when I become [a] Buddha, [if the] people within my land, [have] all those not [with] flight, I [shall] not become [a] Buddha.

九、我作佛时，我国中人民，不悉彻听者，我不作佛。
[9] Ninth, when I become [a] Buddha, [if the] people within my land, [have] all those not [with] pervasive hearing, I [shall] not become [a] Buddha.

十、我作佛时，我国中人民，有爱欲者，我不作佛。
[10] Tenth, when I become [a] Buddha, [if the] people within my land, have those [with] love [and] desires, I [shall] not become [a] Buddha.

十一、我作佛时，我国中人民，住止尽般泥洹。不尔者，我不作佛。
[11] Eleventh, when I become [a] Buddha, [the] people within my land, [will] abide [and] rest completely [in] Parinirvāṇa. [If it is] not thus, I [shall] not become [a] Buddha.

十二、我作佛时，我国诸弟子，令八方上下，各千亿佛国中，诸天人民、蠕动之类，作缘一觉大弟子，皆禅一心，共数我国中诸弟子，住至百亿劫无能数者。不尔者，我不作佛。
[12] Twelfth, when I become [a] Buddha, [of] my land’s all disciples, if [the] eight directions, above [and] below, each within [has a] thousand koṭis [of] Buddha lands, [with] all heavenly [and] human people, kinds of wriggling [beings], becoming [those by] Conditions Lone Awakened great disciples, all meditate single-mindedly, together count all [the] disciples within my land, abiding until [a] hundred koṭis [of] kalpas, [they will be] without those able [to] count [them. If it is] not thus, I [shall] not become [a] Buddha.

十三、我作佛时，令我光明，胜于日月、诸佛之明，百亿万倍，昭无数天下，窈冥之处，皆常大明。诸天人民、蠕动之类，见我光明，莫不慈心作善，来生我国。不尔者，我不作佛。
[13] Thirteenth, when I become [a] Buddha, [I will] cause my bright light, [to be] superior to [the] brightness of [the] sun, moon [and] all Buddhas, [by a] hundred koṭis [of] ten thousand times, [with] brightness [for] innumerable heavens below, [at] places of dimness [and] duskiness, all constantly [having] great brightness. All heavenly [and] human people, kinds of wriggling [beings, who] see my bright light, [will have] none not [with the] compassionate mind doing good, coming [to be] born [in] my land. [If it is] not thus, I [shall] not become [a] Buddha.

十四、我作佛时，令八方上下，无数佛国，诸天人民、蠕动之类，令得缘一觉果证弟子，坐禅一心，欲共计知，我年寿几千万亿劫，令无能知寿涯底者。不尔者，我不作佛。
[14] Fourteenth, when I become [a] Buddha, if [in the] eight directions, above [and] below, [in] innumerable Buddha lands, all heavenly [and] human people, kinds of wriggling [beings, are] enabled [to] attain [as those by] Conditions Lone Awakened’s fruit’s realised disciples, sitting [and] meditating single-mindedly, desire together [to] calculate [and] know my lifespan’s years, [to have] how many thousand ten thousand koṭis [of] kalpas, [I will] cause [them to be] without those able [to] know [my] lifespan’s boundary [and] bottom. [If it is] not thus, I [shall] not become [a] Buddha.

十五、我作佛时，人民有来生我国者，除我国中人民所愿，余人民寿命，无有能计者。不尔者，我不作佛。
[15] Fifteenth, when I become [a] Buddha, those people [who] come [to be] born [in] my land, except [the] people within my land [with] that aspired, [the] other people’s lifespans, [will] not have those able [to] calculate [them. If it is] not thus, I [shall] not become [a] Buddha.

十六、我作佛时，国中人民，皆使莫有恶心。不尔者，我不作佛。
[16] Sixteenth, when I become [a] Buddha, [the] people within [my] land, [will] all [be] caused [to] not have evil minds. [If it is] not thus, I [shall] not become [a] Buddha.

十七、我作佛时，令我名闻，八方上下，无数佛国，诸佛各于弟子众中，叹我功德国土之善。诸天人民，蠕动之类，闻我名字，皆悉踊跃，来生我国。不尔者，我不作佛。
[17] Seventeenth, when I become [a] Buddha, [I will] cause my name [to be] heard, [in the] eight directions, above [and] below, [in] innumerable Buddha lands, [with] all Buddhas each within [their] disciples’ assemblies, praising [the] goodness of my meritorious virtues’ land. All heavenly [and] human people, kinds of wriggling [beings, who] hear my name, [will] all enthusiastically come [to be] born [in] my land. [If it is] not thus, I [shall] not become [a] Buddha.

十八、我作佛时，诸佛国人民，有作菩萨道者，常念我净洁心，寿终时，我与不可计比丘众，飞行迎之，共在前立，即还生我国，作阿惟越致。不尔者，我不作佛。
[18] Eighteenth, when I become [a] Buddha, [of] all Buddha lands’ people, [who] have those undertaking [the] Bodhisattva path, [if] constantly mindful [of] me [with] pure minds, when [their] lives end, I, with [an] incalculable Bhikṣus’ assembly, [will] fly [and] travel [to] welcome them, together before [them] standing, immediately returning [to be] born [in] my land, [to] become Avaivartikas. [If it is] not thus, I [shall] not become [a] Buddha.

十九、我作佛时，他方佛国人民，前世为恶，闻我名字，及正为道，欲来生我国。寿终皆令不复更三恶道，则生我国，在心所愿。不尔者，我不作佛。
[19] Nineteenth, when I become [a] Buddha, [if] other directions’ Buddha lands’ people, [in their] past lives [having] done evil, hear my name, [they will] reach [the] right [to] cultivate [the] path, [and] desire [to] come [to be] born [in] my land. [When their] lives end, all [will be] caused [to] not again [be in the] three evil paths, then born [in] my land, wholeheartedly [with] that aspired. [If it is] not thus, I [shall] not become [a] Buddha.

二十、我作佛时，我国诸菩萨，不一生等，置是余愿功德。不尔者，我不作佛。
[20] Twentieth, when I become [a] Buddha, [if] my land’s all Bodhisattvas, [do] not [in] one life [attain] Equal [Awakening], aside [from] those [with] other vows [and] meritorious virtues. [If it is] not thus, I [shall] not become [a] Buddha.

二十一、我作佛时，我国诸菩萨，不悉三十二相者，我不作佛。
[21] Twenty-first, when I become [a] Buddha, [if] my land’s all Bodhisattvas, [are] not all those [with the] thirty-two forms, I [shall] not become [a] Buddha.

二十二、我作佛时，我国诸菩萨，欲共供养，八方上下，无数诸佛，皆令飞行，欲得万种，自然之物，则皆在前，持用供养诸佛。悉遍已后，日未中，则还我国。不尔者，我不作佛。
[22] Twenty-second, when I become [a] Buddha, [if] my land’s all Bodhisattvas, desire together [to] make offerings, [to the] eight directions, above [and] below, [their] innumerable all Buddhas, all [will be] enabled [to] fly [and] travel, [with] desired [to] attain ten thousand kinds of natural objects, then [with] all before [them], holding, using [and] making offerings [to] all Buddhas. After [offering to] all everywhere already, [with the] day yet [to be] noon, then returning [to] my land. [If it is] not thus, I [shall] not become [a] Buddha.

二十三、我作佛时，我国诸菩萨欲饭时，则七宝钵中，生自然百味，饮食在前。食已，钵皆自然去。不尔者，我不作佛。
[23] Twenty-third, when I become [a] Buddha, when my land’s all Bodhisattvas desire [to] eat, then within seven treasures’ bowls, [they will] naturally produce [a] hundred flavours [of] drinks [and] food before [them]. Eaten already, [the] bowls [will] all naturally go. [If it is] not thus, I [shall] not become [a] Buddha.

二十四、我作佛时，我国诸菩萨，说经行道，不如佛者，我不作佛。』
[24] Twenty-fourth, when I become [a] Buddha, [if] my land’s all Bodhisattvas, [when] speaking [the] sūtras [and] practising [the] path, [are] those not equal [to the] Buddhas, I [shall] not become [a] Buddha.’
