[126] Constantly Embracing Reverent Fear, Not Having The Evil And False

[For] clever persons, those most easily violated [are] then sexual desires.

[They] should constantly embrace reverent fear, [and] absolutely not slightly have budding of [the] evil [and] false. If perhaps occasionally giving rise [to] this thought, immediately think [that] our each [and every] one raised thought [and] move, [is by the] heavens [and] earth’s ghosts [and] gods, all Buddhas [and] Bodhisattvas, without [that] not all known [and] all seen.

Before people still not daring [to] do wrong, moreover at Buddhas [and] heavenly [beings’] strict places, daring [to] retain thoughts of [the] evil [and] base, with doing of matters evil [and] base?

Mèngzǐ said, ‘[Of] services, which is important? Serving parents is important. [Of] guarding, which is important? Guarding [the] body is important.’ If not guarding [the] body, even if able [to] serve parents, [this is] also merely superficial [and] ceremonial only. In fact, [this] thus is looking down upon [this] given body of parents, [and] this unfiliality [is] also great.

Thus [did] Zēngzǐ, [when] approaching [life’s] end, then spoke at ease, these words without worry, saying, ‘[The Book Of] Odes《诗经》says, “Apprehensively [and] cautiously, like approaching [a] deep abyss, like walking [on] thin ice.” From now afterwards, I know [I am] spared [from] that [damaging]!’ Yet [to] reach this moment, still retaining apprehensive cautiousness. Zēngzǐ [was] moreover thus, moreover us ordinary [persons]?
