枉死之大祸根
[125] [The] Great Root Of Disaster [For] Unworthy Deaths
吾常谓世间人民，十分之中，由色欲直接而死者，有其四分。间接而死者亦有四分，以由色欲亏损，受别种感触而死。
I often say [that of the] world’s people, of ten parts within, [of those] due [to] sexual desires directly then dying, [there] are those four parts. Those indirectly then dying also have four parts, with [those] due [to] sexual desires losing [their lives, and those] receiving other kinds [of] emotional stirrings then dying.
此诸死者，无不推之于命。岂知贪色者之死，皆非其命。本乎命者，乃居心清贞，不贪欲事之人。彼贪色者，皆自戕其生，何可谓之为命乎？
All these deceased ones, [are] without [those] not pushed to [this being their] destinies. How [do we] know [the] deaths of those greedy [for] sex, [were] all not [due to] their destinies? Those surpassing [their] original destinies, thus possessing minds pure [and] chaste, [are] not those persons [with] greedy desires’ matters. [As] those greedy [for] sex, all self-harmed their lives, how can [we] call this as [their] destinies?
至若依命而生，命尽而死者，不过一二分耳。由是知天下多半皆枉死之人，此祸之烈，世无有二。
As for those relying [on their] destinies then born, [and at their] destinies’ end then dying, [there are] no more than one [or] two parts only. Due [to] this, knowing [that in the] heavens below, [as] chiefly [are] all those unworthily dying people, [of that with the] intensity of this misfortune, [the] world [does] not have two.
亦有不费一钱，不劳微力，而能成至高之德行，享至大之安乐，遗子孙以无穷之福荫，俾来生得贞良之眷属者，其唯戒淫乎！夫妇正淫，前已略说利害，今且不论。
Also, [there] is [that] not spending one coin, not toiling [with a] little effort, yet able [to] accomplish [the] utmost high of virtuous conduct, enjoy [the] utmost great of peace [and] bliss, bequeath children [and] grandchildren with [that] inexhaustible of blessings [and] protection, causing [in] future lives, [to] attain those chaste [and] good family members. That [is] only [with] abstaining [from] sex! [Of] husbands [and] wives’ right sexual [conduct, having] already briefly spoken [on their] benefits [and] harms, [I] now shall not discuss [them].
至于邪淫之事，无廉无耻，极秽极恶，乃以人身，行畜生事。
As for matters of sexual misconduct, [they are] without honour [and] without shame, [with] extreme defilements [and] extreme evils, thus with human bodies, doing animals’ matters.
是以艳女来奔，妖姬献媚，君子视为莫大之祸殃而拒之，必致福曜照临，皇天眷佑。小人视为莫大之幸福而纳之，必致灾星莅止，鬼神诛戮。
Therefore, [of those who for] beautiful women come running, [and for] beauties ingratiating, [with] noble persons seeing [these] as misfortunes [and] disasters, with nothing greater, then refusing them, [they will] definitely cause ‘blessings’ planet’ [to] approach, [with the] Emperor of Heaven’s care [and] blessings. [Of] those [which] persons [with] little [virtue] see as happiness, with nothing greater, then receiving them, [they will] definitely cause ‘disasters stars’ to approach, [with] ghosts [and] gods putting [them] to death.
君子则因祸而得福，小人则因祸而加祸。故曰：「祸福无门，唯人自召。」
Noble persons, then because [of] misfortunes, yet attain blessings. Persons [with] little [virtue], then because [of] misfortunes, yet add misfortunes. Thus saying, ‘Misfortunes [and] blessings [are] without doors, only [by] people personally summoned.’
世人苟于女色关头，不能彻底看破。则是以至高之德行，至大之安乐，以及子孙无穷之福荫，来生贞良之眷属，断送于俄顷之欢娱也。哀哉！
[The] world’s people, if at female charms’ juncture, [are] not able [to] thoroughly see through [it, are] then only with [the] utmost high of virtuous conduct, utmost great of peace [and] bliss, as well as children [and] grandchildren’s [that] inexhaustible of blessings [and] protection, [and] future lives’ those chaste [and] good family members, ruined in a moment of pleasure [and] enjoyment. Alas!
