返照回光之妙法
[102] Wonderful Methods Of Inward Illumination [With] Returned Light
向外驰求,不知返照回光。如是学佛,殊难得其实益。
[To] outwardly chase [and] seek, [is] not knowing [to] inwardly illuminate [with] returned light. Thus learning Buddhism, [it is] especially difficult [to] attain its true benefits.
孟子曰:「学问之道无他,求其放心而已矣。」
Mencius said, ‘[The] path of learning [is] none other, [than to] seek [that] putting down [of the] mind only.’
汝学佛,而不知息心念佛,于儒教尚未实遵,况佛教乃真实息心之法乎?(即制心不令外驰之谓。编者敬注)
You, learning Buddhism, yet not knowing [to] extinguish [distracting] thoughts [to be] mindful [of the] Buddha, [are] with [the] Confucian teachings still yet [to] truly follow [them], moreover [of the] Buddha’s teachings, then [with the] method of truly extinguishing [distracting thoughts]? (This [is] called immediate restraint [of the] mind, [to] not cause [it to] chase [the] outward. [By the] compiler respectfully annotated.)
观世音菩萨:「反闻闻自性。」
Contemplator [Of The] World’s Sounds Bodhisattva [teaches to] ‘reverse hearing [to] hear self-nature.‘
大势至菩萨:「都摄六根,净念相继。」
Great Power Arrived Bodhisattva [teaches to] ‘gather all six roots, [with] pure mindfulness [in] continuous succession.‘
《金刚经》:「应无所住而生其心」,不住色声香味触法而行布施,乃至万行。
[The] Vajra Sūtra [teaches that Bodhisattvas] ‘should without that abiding, then give rise [to] their minds’, not abiding [in] sights, sounds, smells, tastes, touches [and] dharmas then practising giving, and even [the] ten thousand practices.
《心经》:「照见五蕴皆空。」
[The] Heart Sūtra [teaches to] ‘contemplate [upon and] realise [the] five aggregates [to] all [be of] emptiness.’
皆示人即境识心之妙法也。
[These are] all [for] teaching people, wonderful methods of recognising [their] minds [in the] immediate circumstances.
若一向专欲博览,非无利益。奈业障未消,未得其益,先受其病矣。
If always [with the] focused desire [to] read extensively, [this is] not without benefits. However, [with] karmic obstacles yet [to be] eliminated, yet [to] attain its benefits, first receiving its sickness.
