[14] Explanation Of Aspirations When Cultivating Meditative Concentration (Of The Great Right And Vast Buddha’s Flower Adornment Sūtra’s Pure Practices’ Chapter) 《

[14] [VS3] [Three: Explanation (Of) Aspirations When Cultivating Meditative Concentration]

[V028]

If spreading out [to cover a] bench seat,
[there] should [be] aspiration [for] sentient beings,
[to] openly spread good dharmas,
[for] seeing truth’s form.

[Note: Good dharmas are wholesome teachings that lead to Buddhahood. Truth’s form are with characteristics of reality.]

[V029]

[With the] upright body seated,
[there] should [be] aspiration [for] sentient beings,
[to] sit [on the] Bodhi seat,
[with] minds without that attached.

[Note: The Bodhi seat is under a Bodhi tree, where there is awakening to Buddhahood. Attachment is due to greed, hatred and delusion.]

[V030]

[When] forming crossed legs [in the] lotus posture’s seat,
[there] should [be] aspiration [for] sentient beings,
[to be with] good roots firm [and] strong,
[to] attain [the] immovable ground.

[Note: The lotus posture for the legs is with the left foot on the right thigh and the right foot on the left thigh, for practices such as meditation, chanting, learning and teaching. Good roots are foundations for spiritual growth, which are free from greed, hatred and delusion. The immovable ground is the stage with non-retrogressive progress towards Buddhahood, which can be attained in Pure Land.]

[V031]

[When] cultivating practice of concentration,
[there] should [be] aspiration [for] sentient beings,
[to be] with concentration [to] subdue [their] minds,
ultimately without remainder.

[Note: Practice of concentration can be with meditative practices, including by chanting, to subdue the mind, by training for calmness and clarity, to be without remaining afflictions and defilements.]

[V032]

If cultivating [practice of] contemplation,
[there] should [be] aspiration [for] sentient beings,
[to] see suchness’ true principles,
[to] forever [be] without deviation [and] contention.

[Note: Practice of concentration can be with meditative practices, including by chanting. To see suchness’ true principles is to see the reality of how things are.]
