先得偈
Verse [On] First Attaining
以佛果地觉，
为我因地心。
仗佛大他力，
引导小自力。
With [the] Buddha’s fruition ground’s awakening, as my causal ground’s mind. Relying [on the] Buddha’s great Other-power, [to] receive [and] guide [my] little Self-power.
先得而后修，
念佛为作佛。
弥陀已成佛，
即为成就我。
First ‘attaining’ then after cultivating, mindfulness [of] Buddha [is] for becoming Buddha. Āmítuófó [having] already accomplished Buddhahood, is exactly for accomplishing mine.
