[22] The Nature Of Pure Land’s Meritorious Virtues’ Adornments
己二、结示佛力
F2: Conclusive Teaching [On] Buddha’s Power
【经】：舍利弗，极乐国土，成就如是功德庄严。
[Sūtra]: Śāriputra, [the] Land [Of] Ultimate Bliss [is] accomplished [with] such meritorious virtues’ adornments.
【解】：明上住处生处种种庄严，皆是阿弥陀佛大愿大行称性功德之所成就。
[Explanation]: Explained above [are] dwelling places [and] birthplaces’ all kinds [of] adornments, [which] are all [by] Amitā Buddha’s great vows [and] great practices’ Matching Nature’s meritorious virtues those accomplished.
[Note 1: Matching Nature (称性) is what matches True Suchness (真如), which is Self-Nature (自性) of Buddha-Nature (佛性).]
故能遍严四种净土，普摄十方三世一切凡圣令往生也。
Therefore, [they are] able [to] everywhere adorn [the] four kinds [of] Pure Lands, [to] universally gather [the] ten directions’ [and] three periods’ all ordinary [and] noble [beings, to] enable [them to be] reborn [there].
复次，佛以大愿作众生多善根之因，以大行作众生多福德之缘，令信愿持名者，念念成就如是功德，而皆是已成，非今非当。
Furthermore, [the] Buddha, with [his] great vows made [as] sentient beings’ cause of [having] many good roots, [and] with [his] great practices made [as] sentient beings’ condition of [having] many blessed virtues, enable those [with] Faith [and] Aspiration upholding [his] name, [from] thought [to] thought, [to] accomplish such meritorious virtues. Yet, all [these] were already accomplished, not [those] now [being accomplished, and] not [those that] will [be accomplished].
此则以阿弥种种庄严作增上本质，带起众生自心种种庄严，全佛即生，全他即自，故曰「成就如是功德庄严」。
This thus [is] with Āmítuófó’s all kinds [of] adornments made [as] superior Original Qualities’ [realm, to] raise sentient beings’ own minds’ all kinds [of] adornments, entirely [with the] Buddha’s the same as sentient beings’, entirely [with the] Other’s the same as Self’s, therefore called ‘accomplished [with] such meritorious virtues’ adornments’.
[Note 2: The root qualities (本质) are the natural meritorious virtues (功德) of Buddha-nature (佛性), as nurtured by increasing superiority’s conditions (增上缘) in the Pure Land to arise.]
