[62] How To Joyfully And Faithfully Accept The Amitābha Sūtra?
B2: Conclusive Exhortation
[Sūtra]: [The] Buddha, [having] spoken this sūtra already, Śāriputra, and all [the] Bhikṣus, [with] all [the] world’s heavenly [beings], humans, asuras [and] others, [having] heard that [the] Buddha spoke, joyfully [and] faithfully accepted [it, as they] made prostrations and departed.
[Explanation]: [As this] Dharma Door [is] inconceivable, difficult [to] believe [and] difficult [to] know, not one person [was] able [to] ask [about] it.
[With the] Buddha’s wisdom reflecting upon [their] capacities, knowing sentient beings’ conditions [for] accomplishing Buddhahood [have] ripened, without asking self-speaking [this sutra, to] lead [to] attaining [of the] Four Benefits, like [how] timely rain transforms, therefore [did all] ‘joyfully [and] faithfully accepted [it]’.
[Note:
Four Siddhāntas’ (四悉檀) Four Benefits (四益):
The Siddhāntas are the Buddha’s teaching methods, from the simple to the profound, for giving the Dharma to all sentient beings according to their capacities.
(1) Worldly Siddhānta (世界悉檀) for Joy’s Benefit (欢喜益)
(2) Individual Siddhānta (各各为人悉檀) for Giving Rise To Goodnesses’ Benefit (生善益)
(3) Curative Siddhānta (对治悉檀) for Elimination Of Evils’ Benefit (灭恶益)
(4) Supreme Truth’s Siddhānta (第一义悉檀) for Entering Of Principles’ Benefit (入理益)
The above correspond to the below.
(1) Hearing the Dharma (闻法)
(2) Having Faith and Understanding (信解)
(3) Cultivation of Practice (修行)
(4) Attaining of Benefits (得益).]
