Today, the 17th day of the 11th lunar month,
is the sacred birthday of Āmítuófó.

破地狱偈

其佛本愿力，
闻名欲往生，
皆悉到彼国，
自致不退转。

Verse For Breaking Free From Hell

[From] that [Amitā(bha)] Buddha’s power [of his] fundamental vows, [with] hearing [of his] name [‘Āmítuófó’, and] desiring [to be] reborn, all [will] reach that [Pure] Land [of his, and] personally attain non-retrogression [for Buddhahood].

能破偈

万德弘名，
阿弥陀佛，
能破地狱，
出离三界。

Verse On Ability To Break Free

[With the] great name
[of] ten thousand virtues, ‘Āmítuófó’,
[all are] able [to] break [free from] hell,
[and to] depart [from the] three realms.
