[135] Reciting Āmítuófó’s Name, For Studying Books, Has What Help? 念佛对读书有什么帮助?

经目略为一阅,不宜看者勾之。即宜看者,亦祈少看。

Passing [the] eyes briefly for one overview, those not suitable [to be] read [are] ticked. Even [of] those suitable [for] reading, [I] also implore less reading [of them].

但以念佛治习消业为事。业消看书,一览知妙。此由约而得之妙法也。

Only with reciting [of Āmítuó]fó[’s name (阿弥陀佛)] curing habits [and] eliminating [evil] karmas as practice, [with] karmas eliminated reading books, [with] one overview knowing [their] wonders. This [is] due [to] that wonderful method concise then attained.

今人根性陋劣,一博则泛漫无依,心绪纷张,难以相应矣。

Nowadays, people [with] root natures crude [and] inferior, once widely reading, then drifting all over the place without [that to] rely on, [with their] minds’ feelings scattered openly, [they are] difficult [to] correspond with [that read].
