念佛报应因缘
[3] Mindfulness [Of] Buddha’s Rewards’ Responses’ Causes [And] Conditions

[i] 梁氏女双瞽而眼明，
[ii] 冯氏夫人久病而痊愈，
[iii] 陈仲举怨鬼遂去，
[iv] 刘慧仲夜卧不惊，
此 [a] 生前念佛之效也；

[i] Liáng Shì’s daughter’s both [eyes were] blind, then [with her] eyes clear. [ii] Madam Féng Shì [was] long sick, then [with] complete recovery. [iii] Chén Zhòng raised [the] enmity [of a] ghost, [who] thereupon left. [iv] Liú Huìzhòng [at] night slept without [being] frightened. These [are] [a] effects of mindfulness [of] Buddha when living.

[v] 姚婆见佛像于空中，
[vi] 昙鉴得莲花于瓶内，
[vii] 怀玉承金台之迎接，
[viii] 智舜睹孔雀之飞鸣，
此 [b] 临终往生之效也；

[v] Yáo Pó saw [the] Buddha’s image within [the] sky. [vi] Tán Jiàn attained [a] lotus flower within [a] vase. [vii] Huái Yù received [the] welcoming [and] receiving [of his] golden dais. [viii] Zhì Shùn saw [the] flying [and] chirping [of a] peacock. These [are] [b] effects of mindfulness [of] Buddha [when] approaching [life’s] end [for] rebirth.

[ix] 志通有五色祥云，
[x] 李氏得三根不坏，
[xi] 宝藏有童子出于顶上，
[xii] 公则有金色现于洛中，
此 [c] 身后示现之效也。

[ix] Zhì Tōng had five-coloured auspicious clouds. [x] Lǐ Shì attained [the] three roots [without outflows] indestructible. [xi] Bǎo Zàng had [a] youth arising from [his] crown above. [xii] Gōng Zé had golden colour appearing within Luò[yáng: 洛阳]. These [are] [c] effects of mindfulness [of] Buddha manifesting after death.

生净土者，有进无退，直至于成佛，是劝一人修净土，乃成就一众生作佛也。凡作佛者，必度无量众生。彼所度之众生，皆由我而始，故劝人修者，福德不可穷尽。

Those born [in the] Pure Land, [will] have advancement without retrogression, directly until accomplishing Buddhahood. This encouraging [of] one person [to] cultivate [the] Pure Land [path], thus accomplishes one sentient being [to] become [a] Buddha. All those becoming Buddhas, [will] definitely deliver immeasurable sentient beings. Of those delivered sentient beings, [they are] all due [to] me then beginning. Thus, those encouraging people [to] cultivate [have] blessed virtues [that] cannot [be] exhausted completely.

大慈菩萨偈云：

Great Loving-Kindness [i.e. Dàcí] Bodhisattva’s verses say,

「能劝一人修，比自己精进。
劝至十馀人，福德已无量。

‘[If] able [to] encourage one person [to] cultivate, [this is] more [than being] personally diligent. Encouraging until ten [or] more persons, [the] blessed virtues [are] already immeasurable.

如劝百与千，名为真菩萨。
又能过万数，即是阿弥陀。」

If encouraging [a] hundred and thousand [people, one is] named as [a] true Bodhisattva. Also able [to] surpass ten thousand [in] number, then is [this like] Āmítuófó [阿弥陀佛: Amitā(bha) Buddha].’

又云：

Also saying,

「骨肉恩情相爱，难期白首团圆。
几多强壮亡身，更有婴孩命尽。

‘[With] bones [and] flesh [i.e. flesh and blood] [having] deep affection loving one another, [it is] difficult [to] hope [for those with] white heads [to have] reunions. How many [of those] strong [and] sturdy [have] deaths [of their] bodies? Even more are infants [with] lives ended.

勤念阿弥陀佛，七宝池中化生。
聚会永无别离，万劫长生快乐。」

[With] diligent mindfulness [of] Āmítuófó, within seven treasures’ ponds [have] transformed births. [With] gathering [and] meeting forever without departure [from] one another, [for] ten thousand kalpas [having] long lives [with] happiness [and] bliss.’

古诗云：「万般将不去，唯有业随身。」

[An] ancient poem says, ‘[The] ten thousand [things] will not go, only having karmas following oneself.’

可不深自警惕哉！王日修劝缘。

How [can we] not deeply [and] personally [be] diligent? Wáng Rìxiū encouraged [those] connected [thus].
