Meditators Should Also Be Mindful Of Āmítuófó At The End
百丈【禅师于以下《百丈清规》】立祈祷病僧、化送亡僧之规,皆归【阿弥陀佛】净土。
[Chán Master] Bǎizhàng [in ‘Bǎizhàng’s Pure Rules’ below] established rules of praying [for] sick monastics, transforming [and] sending [off dying and] deceased monastics, all [for] ‘returning’ [to Āmítuófó’s] Pure Land.
又【于《丛林要则二十条》】曰:「修行以念佛为稳当」。
Furthermore, [in ‘Twenty Essential Monastery Principles’ said, ‘For] cultivation [of] practice, [it is] with mindfulness [of] Buddha as [the] most reliable’, [as it is the easiest, safest and swiftest for the greatest results].

《与大兴善寺体安和尚书》
(Letter For Dàxīngshàn Monastery’s Venerable Tǐ’ān)
「轻病人,宜静住念佛。… 重病入堂,便应付托后事,放下万缘,一心念佛。又看重病,须二三人轮时,昼夜不离 【助念】。…若将临终… 即派数人念佛送终。 」
‘Lightly sick persons, should quietly abide [upon] mindfulness [of] Buddha… [When the] seriously sick enter halls, [they] then should [be] instructed [to] rely on, [and for] after[life funeral] practice, putting down [of the] ten thousand conditions, [for] wholehearted mindfulness [of] Buddha. Furthermore, [when] looking [after the] seriously sick, [there] must [be] two [to] three persons rotating [two]-hourly, [in] day [and] night not leaving [without support-chanting]… If about [to] approach [life’s] end… immediately arrange several persons [to] practise mindfulness [of] Buddha [for] sending [off and after the] end.’
