Six Reflections: Preparing, Departing, Healing, Worrying, Relieving, Despairing

The younger might think they will depart much later, but this means they will have to face the most departures in the family. They might as well be the most prepared now, to best help themselves and others prepare for the best departure, to reach Āmítuófó’s Pure Land.

Āmítuófó is truly the Unsurpassable Great Healing King. When no longer able to have swift healing in this life, he is able to offer us complete recovery with physical and mental wellness, without ageing, sickness and death, and with immeasurable life in his Pure Land, thus attaining liberation from birth and death, and swiftly accomplishing the Buddha path.

阿弥陀佛是真正的无上大医王。
今生再不可能速愈时,
能在他的净土给予我们
身心安康的完全康复、
无老病死、得无量寿、
了脱生死、速成佛道。

While worrying never helps,
you can always help
with mindfulness of Āmítuófó’s name,
with each recitation
dedicating meritorious virtues
to relieve suffering directly.

Once you worry needlessly,
be mindful of Āmítuófó sincerely,
till the worry dissipates,
replaced by peace of mind.

With the best preparation,
even the seemingly ‘worst’,
like death in this defiled land,
can lead to the best,
like birth in Pure Land.

For the final day,
when who is to say?
Always time to prepare.
This is no time to despair.

Please be mindful of your speech, Amituofo!
