应当有多少信愿得生净土？
How Much Faith And Aspiration Should There Be To Reach Pure Land?
Question: Do I need to have 100% (or complete) Faith and Aspiration (that power Practice) to reach Pure Land?
Answer: More than 50% of Faith is needed, or there will not be any Aspiration to motivate Practice. (For example, if you lack Faith that a place exists and is worth going to, you will not have Aspiration to have the Practice of going towards it.) If there is less that 50% of Faith, this means there are more doubts than Faith, which surely makes it inadequate to be called ‘Faith’ in the first place; with it more suitably called ‘Doubt’.
The more deep (i.e. profound) Faith (深信) there is, the more sincere Aspiration (切愿) there will be accordingly. If Aspiration does not increase with Faith accordingly, this means the Faith was not genuinely deep enough. Faith (and Aspiration) should be increased with continual learning and asking, to identify and banish doubts (and reluctance), and with Practice, to verify and strengthen Faith (and Aspiration). This is how doubts can be transformed to deep Faith, and reluctance can be transformed sincere Aspiration.
品边偈
Verses On Grades And Border Land
深信生切愿，
实行得生西。
直入净土中，
九品得之一。
With deep Faith giving rise to sincere Aspiration, is true Practice that attains birth in the Western Pure Land. Directly entering the Pure Land within, of the nine grades attaining one of them.
浅信而有疑，
但信多于疑。
亦有愿与行，
先入边地中。
With shallow Faith then having doubts, however with Faith more than doubts. Also having Aspiration and Practice, first entering the border land within.
无信愿无行，
无边地无品。
少信愿少行，
九品得下品。
Without Faith and Aspiration, thus without Practice, is without entering of the border land and without attaining of a grade. With little Faith and Aspiration, thus with little Practice, of the nine grades attaining a lower grade.
中信愿中行，
九品得中品。
多信愿多行，
九品得上品。
With medium Faith and Aspiration, thus with medium Practice, of the nine grades attaining an middle grade. With much Faith and Aspiration, thus with much Practice, of the nine grades attaining a higher grade.
