How To Expedite Blooming Of Lotus Flowers In Pure Land?
Question: How can we help those ‘trapped’ within lotus flowers (莲华) in Āmítuófó’s (阿弥陀佛) Pure Land (净土)?
Answer: There are 3 points to note.
[1] First, they are not ‘trapped’, as all flowers with beings within will bloom naturally very soon. They are just within for the time being, to clear the karmic obstacles (业障) that prevent them from immediately experiencing the Pure Land’s full splendour and benefits. As can be seen below, these obstacles will be cleared quickly, with more personal sincere Niànfó (念佛) (with Faith and Aspiration: 信愿) to express repentance (忏悔).
[2] Second, the durations within the flowers are very short. The only three ‘significantly longer’ durations are:
(i) 500 years (年) in the borderland (边地), which when converted to the Pure Land’s time scale, is less than 1 second there.
(ii) 6 kalpas (劫) (i.e. world cycles) in the Low Grade’s Middle Births (下品下生), which when converted, is just 6 days there.
(iii) 12 kalpas in the Low Grade’s Low Births (下品下生), which when converted, is just 12 days there.
[3] Third, to expedite even faster blooming, others concerned can:
(a) practise more sincere Niànfó, which is the fastest way to create more meritorious virtues (功德), for
(b) dedicating (回向) to those within. (One-seventh of the meritorious virtues will be dedicatable.)
