唐长安李知遥
[17] Táng [Dynasty’s] Cháng’ān’s Lǐ Zhīyáo
知遥，善净土教，五会念佛，为众师范。
Zhīyáo, [had] good [understanding of the] Pure Land teachings, [and the] Five Assemblies’ Recitation [Of The] Buddha[‘s Name, and was] as [the] masses’ model example for learning from.
后因疾，忽云：「念佛，和尚来也。」
Later because [of] sickness, [he] suddenly said, ‘Recite [the] Buddha[‘s name, as the] Great Venerable [has] come.’
洗漱著衣，索香炉，出堂顶礼，乃闻空中说偈云：「
[After] washing [his face], rinsing [his] mouth [and] wearing [his] clothes, [he] asked [for an] incense censer, [and] left [the] hall [to] prostrate [with it]. Then heard within [the] sky, [was a] verse [that] said,
报汝李知遥，功成果自招。
引君生净土，将尔上金桥。」
‘[This is to] inform [that] you, Lǐ Zhīyáo, [are with your] merits [having] accomplished [this] self-beckoned fruit. [I have come to] guide you [to be] born [in] Pure Land, [who] will thus ascend [the] golden bridge.’
却就床坐而化去。众闻异香。
Retreating towards [his] bed [to] sit, then departing [to] go [to Pure Land]. All smelled extraordinary fragrance.
