菩提偈
Verses [On] Bodhi[citta]

若发菩提心，
今生尽力行。
莫畏心薄弱，
生西必圆心。

If [having] given rise [to the] Bodhi Mind [i.e. Bodhicitta, in] this life [with your] utmost efforts practise [the Dharma. Do] not fear [that your Bodhi] Mind [is] weak, [as with] birth [in the] Western [Pure Land] will [you] perfect [this] mind.

若未发此心，
更应向西行。
净土有胜缘，
为速发大心。

If yet [to] give rise [to] this mind, all the more should [you] to [the] West practise. [As the] Pure Land has supreme conditions, for swift giving rise [of this] great mind.

此既已必定，
所以旭公云，
「深信发愿即
无上菩提」矣。

This, since already [is] definite, therefore [did] honourable [Great Master Zhì]xù [i.e. Pure Land Tradition’s 9th Patriarch Great Master Ǒuyì: 净土宗九祖蕅益大师] say, ‘[With] profound Faith giving rise [to the] Aspiration [to be born in Pure Land, this] immediately [is] unsurpassable Bodhi[citta].’
