[13] Why Is Amitābha Buddha’s Pure Land In The West?
【解】：问：何故极乐在西方？
[Explanation]: Question: [For] what reason [is the Land Of] Ultimate Bliss in [the] western direction?
答：此非善问。 假使极乐在东，汝又问何故在东，岂非戏论？
Answer: This [is] not [a] good question. If [the Land Of] Ultimate Bliss [is] in [the] East, you [will] again ask why [is it] in [the] East. How [is this] not frivolous discussion?
况自十一万亿佛土视之，又在东矣，何足致疑？
Moreover, from [a] hundred [and] ten thousand koṭis [of] Buddha lands [away] looking at it, [it is] also in [the] East, how [is this] enough [to] cause doubt?
[Note: According to Amitābha Sūtra《阿弥陀经》, as taught by the Buddha, ‘From this western direction, passing a hundred thousand koṭis (i.e. one trillion) of Buddha Lands, is a world named Ultimate Bliss.’ (从是西方，过十万亿佛土，有世界名曰极乐。). Thus, from more than ‘a hundred thousand koṭis’ away, such as ‘a hundred and ten thousand koṭis’ away, looking at the Pure Land, since directions are relative, the Western Pure Land Of Ultimate Bliss (西方极乐世界) will be in the East instead.]
