[227] 印光大师是如何以生死自励的？
[227] How [Did] Great Master Yìnguāng, With Birth [And] Death, Encourage Himself?
◎ 将一个死字，挂到额颅上。
◎ [Summary]: With [the] one ‘death’ word, hanging [on the] forehead above.
汝将死，快念佛。心不专一，决堕地狱，饿鬼畜生尚难求，勿妄想人天福果。
[As] you [are] about to die, quickly [be] mindful [of Āmítuó]fó. [For if your] mind [is] not single-minded, definitely falling [into the] hells, [with] hungry ghosts [and] animals’ [paths] still difficult [to] seek, do not [have] false thoughts [of getting] human [and] heavenly blessings’ fruits.
汝将死，快念佛。志若真诚，便预莲池，声闻缘觉犹弗住，定克证等妙圆乘。
[As] you [are] about to die, quickly [be] mindful [of Āmítuó]fó. [For] if [your] Aspiration [is] truly sincere, then in advance [reaching the] lotus pond, [where] Voice-Hearers [and Those By] Conditions Awakened still do not dwell, [you will] definitely [be] able [to] realise [the] equally wonderful perfect vehicle [of Buddhahood].

Couplet
虚度七十，来日无几。
如囚赴市，步步近死。
Worthlessly [having] passed [more than] seventy [years, my] coming days [are] without many. Like [a] prisoner going [to the] city [to face execution], step by step nearing death.
谢绝一切，专修净土。
倘鉴愚诚，是真莲友。
Thankfully declining all [visitors, to] focus [upon] cultivating [to reach] Pure Land. [Those] if reflecting [on my] heartfelt sincerity, are [my] true lotus friends.
