[172] 净宗行者为什么要切戒不接受佛力？
[172] Why Must [The] Pure [Land] Tradition’s Practitioners Absolutely Guard Against Not Accepting [The] Buddha’s Power?
◎ 一个人从生至死，无一事不仗人力，何独于了生死一大事？藐视佛力，丧心病狂。净宗行者，所当切戒。
◎ [Summary]: [As] a person from birth until death, [is] without one matter not relying on others’ power, how [can it] only [be] for [liberation from the cycle of] birth [and] death, [this] one great matter? Looking down on [the] Buddha’s power, [is] losing [the] mind [with the] sickness [of] madness. [For the] Pure [Land] Tradition’s practitioners, that should [be] absolutely guarded against.
若不注重信愿，唯期持至一心，纵令深得一心，亦难了生脱死。何以故？
If not emphasising [on] Faith [and] Aspiration, only hoping [to] uphold [Āmítuófó name (阿弥陀佛)] until single-mindedness, even if deeply attaining single-mindedness [i.e. not wholeheartedness or sincerity], [it is] also difficult [to be] liberated completely [from the cycle of] birth [and] death. Why thus?
以烦惑未尽，不能仗自力了生死。信愿既无，不能仗佛力了生死。
With afflictions [and] confusions yet [to be] exhausted, [one is] not able [to] rely on self-power [to be] liberated [from the cycle of] birth [and] death. [Of] Faith [and] Aspiration, since without [them, one is] not able [to] rely on [the] Buddha’s power [to be] liberated [from the cycle of] birth [and] death.
世有好高务胜者，每每侈谈自力，藐视佛力。
[The] world has those [who are unrealistically] fond [of that] high [to] pursue success, often exaggerating [when] discussing [their] self-power, looking down on [the] Buddha’s power.
不知从生至死，无一事不仗人力，而不以为耻。
Not knowing [that] from birth until death, [one is] without one matter not relying on others’ power, yet not with [this] as ‘shameful’.
何独于了生死一大事，并佛力亦不愿受，丧心病狂，一至于此？
How [can it] only [be] for [liberation from the cycle of] birth [and] death, [this] one great matter, furthermore [with the] Buddha’s power, also unwilling [to] receive [it], losing [the] mind [with the] sickness [of] madness, [at] once arriving to this [point]?
净宗行者，所当切戒。
[For the] Pure [Land] Tradition’s practitioners, that should [be] absolutely guarded against.
