孝顺为至道之法
Filial Piety As [The] Method Of [The] Ultimate Path
父母之恩，毕世莫酬。孝之为道，其大无外。如来大教，以孝为本。
[The] kindness of [our] fathers [and] mothers, [even if] completing [this] life, [can]not [be] repaid. [With] that filiality as [the] path, its greatness [is] without [that] outside. [The] Thus Come [Ones’] great teachings [are] with filiality as [their] root.
菩萨视诸六道众生，皆是过去父母，未来诸佛。故地藏有众生度尽，方证菩提，地狱未空，誓不成佛之愿。
Bodhisattvas see all [the] six paths’ sentient beings, [to] all [be their] past fathers [and] mothers, all future Buddhas. Thus, Earth Treasury [Bodhisattva] has [the] vow of [wanting] sentient beings [to be] delivered completely, then realising Bodhi, [with the] hells yet [to be] empty, vowing [to] not accomplish Buddhahood.
《梵网戒经》，以孝顺为至道之法。
[The] Brahma Net Precepts’ Sūtra [is] with filial piety as [the] method of [the] ultimate path.
不但令其孝顺父母师僧三宝，且令其于一切众生，生慈悲心，孝顺心，方便救护，戒杀放生。以一切众生，皆我宿世之父母兄弟妻子眷属故。
Not only enabling that filial piety [to] fathers, mothers, monastic teachers [and the] Triple Gem, moreover enabling it for all sentient beings, giving rise [to] loving-kindness [and] compassion’s mind, [and] filial piety’s mind, skilfully saving [and] protecting, abstaining [from] killing, [with] liberating [of] lives. With all sentient beings, all [being] fathers, mothers, brothers, [sisters], wives [and] children, family members of my past lives thus.
由是言之，佛教之孝，前溯无始，后尽未来，无不弥纶而包括之。
Due [to] this saying that filiality of [the] Buddha’s teachings, precedes upstream without beginning, later [to the] utmost [of the] future, [it is] without that not all encompassing and including.
故莲池云：「亲得离尘垢，子道方成就。」
Thus [did the Pure Land Tradition’s 8th Patriarch Great Master] Liánchí [净土宗八祖莲池大师] say, ‘[With] parents attaining departure [from] dust [and] dirt [i.e. afflictions: 烦恼], [the] child’s path [is] then accomplished.’
