Can Enlightenment Be Attained In Pure Land?
能在净土证悟吗？
Question: Can enlightenment be attained in Āmítuófó’s (阿弥陀佛) Pure Land (净土)?
Answer: All stages of enlightenment can be most swiftly attained there, all the way to the brink of Buddhahood (佛果), as the greatest Bodhisattva, similar to Contemplator Of The World’s Sounds Bodhisattva (观世音菩萨), who is at the Position Of One Life To Replacement (一生补处) (of Buddhas). Being ready to manifest Buddhahood, this is in essence equivalent to Buddhahood, just with its manifestation yet to be done.
Where Can Buddhahood Be Manifested After Leaving Pure Land?
离开净土能在何处显现成佛？
Question: Is there only one such Sahā World (娑婆世界) in the universe (宇宙)? If so, how will many swiftly manifest accomplishing of Buddhahood (成佛) after ‘graduating’ from the Pure Land ?
[Note: ‘Sahā’ means ‘Endurance’ of suffering. This world we are in, where we endure much suffering is part of Saṃsāra (生死), which is the cycle of birth and death; rebirth.]
Answer: The Sahā World is the Buddhist name of the galaxy (星系) we are in. It is also called the Milky Way (银河) conventionally. There is currently an estimated number of 2 trillion galaxies in the universe, with many worlds similar to the Sahā World, with human(-like) realms to manifest Buddhahood in. There can also be manifestation as non-Buddhas, but with Buddha-like abilities.
Beyond just this Sahā World, as we have been reborn in many worlds in many lives before, there are many worlds which we have much karmic affinity with. Even for those with less affinity, we can create greater affinity.
