B1: General Title [On] Giving Rise [To The Bodhi] Mind’s Causes [And] Conditions

菩提心十种因缘
[iv] Bodhi Mind’s Ten Kinds [Of] Causes [And] Conditions

此菩提心，诸善中王，必有因缘，方得发起。今言因缘，略有十种。何等为十？

This Bodhi Mind [is the] king of all good, [that] must have causes [and] conditions, then attaining [its] arising. Now speaking [of the] causes [and] conditions, [there] are briefly ten kinds. What are [the] ten?

一者，念佛重恩故；

[1] First, [is] mindfulness [of the] Buddha’s heavy kindness thus.

二者，念父母恩故；

[2] Second, [is] mindfulness [of our] fathers’ [and] mothers’ kindness thus.

三者，念师长恩故；

[3] Third, [is] mindfulness [of our] teachers’ [and] seniors’ kindness thus.

四者，念施主恩故；

[4] Fourth, [is] mindfulness [of our] benefactors’ kindness thus.

五者，念众生恩故；

[5] Fifth, [is] mindfulness [of] sentient beings’ kindness thus.

六者，念死生苦故；

[6] Sixth, [is] mindfulness [of the] suffering [of] birth [and] death thus.

七者，尊重己灵故；

[7] Seventh, [is] respect [of] one’s spiritual nature thus.

八者，忏悔业障故；

[8] Eighth, [is] repentance [of] karmic obstacles thus.

九者，求生净土故；

[9] Ninth, [is to] seek birth [in] Pure Land thus.

十者，为念正法得久住故。

[10] Tenth, is mindfulness [of the] Right Dharma [to] attain long abiding thus.
