[4] Shíjìn’s Hànlín Scholar Zhāng Kàng
抗平生积善，信重佛门。誓课大悲心陀罗尼十万遍，愿生西方。
Kàng, throughout [his] life accumulated good, [and had] serious faith [in] Buddhism. [He] vowed [to] recite [the] Great Compassionate Mind’s Dhāraṇī one hundred thousand times, aspiring [to be] born [in the] Western [Pure Land.
课毕，年过六十。忽寝疾，唯念阿弥陀佛。
When this] recitation [was] complete, [he had] passed sixty. Suddenly, [when] resting, [he became] sick, [and] only recited Āmítuófó[‘s name].
谓家人云：「西方净土元只在堂屋西间之内，阿弥陀佛坐莲华上，翁儿在莲华池金沙地上礼佛嬉戏。」
Calling [his] family members, [he] said, ‘[The] Western Pure Land [is] originally “only” at [the] central room’s Western space within, [with] Amitā[bha] Buddha sitting [on a] lotus flower above, [and this] grandfather’s [grand]son at [the] lotus flower pond’s gold sands’ ground above, prostrating [to the] Buddha [and] playing around.’
言讫，良久念佛而亡。翁儿者，抗之孙，方二三岁而亡矣。
[With these] words completed, [for] a long time reciting [the] Buddha[‘s name, he] then departed. That grandfather’s [grand]son, [is the] grandson of Kàng, [who] then [at] two [to] three years [old, had] then departed [earlier].
