第二条原则:劝进行者,念佛消灾
[2] [The] Second Principle: Encourage Progress [Of] Practitioners, [With] Mindfulness [Of The] Buddha [To] Eradicate Disasters
又须劝父母、兄弟姊妹、妻室儿女、乡党亲友同皆常念「南无阿弥陀佛」及「南无观世音菩萨」(每日若念一万佛,即念五千观音,多少照此加减)。
Also needed [is to] encourage [your] Father [and] Mother, brothers [and] sisters, wives [and husbands], sons [and] daughters, fellow villagers, relatives [and] friends [to] all together constantly recite ‘Námó Āmítuófó’ [i.e. Homage To (And Refuge For Life In) Amitā(bha) Buddha] and ‘Námó Guānshìyīn Púsà’ [i.e. Homage To (And Refuge For Life In) Contemplator Of The World’s Sounds Bodhisattva] ([with] every day, if reciting ten thousand [times of the] Buddha[’s name], then reciting five thousand [times of] Guānyīn [Bodhisattva’s name, with] more [or] less according [to] this increasing [or] decreasing).
[Note: This means that if reciting Guānyīn Bodhisattva’s (or any other Bodhisattva’s) name (or mantra [咒]), to recite the Buddha’s name twice as much, as it is the Main Cultivation (正修) or Main Practice (正行), for exerting the most efforts.]
以此事利益甚大,忍令生我之人,及我之眷属,并与亲友不蒙此益乎?
With this practice’s benefits extremely great, [how can I] bear [to] let [the] people [who] enabled birth [to] me, and family members of mine, also with relatives [and] friends, [to] not receive these benefits?
况且现在是一个大患难世道,灾祸之来,无法可设。
Moreover, now, [the] ways [of the] world are [with] great dangers [and] difficulties, [with the] coming of disasters, [that are with] no [other] method [that] can [be] establish [against them].
若能常念佛及观音,决定蒙佛慈庇,逢凶化吉。即无灾难,亦得业消智朗,障尽福隆。
If able [to] constantly [be] mindful [of the] Buddha and[/or] Guānyīn, [one will] definitely receive [the] Buddha’s protection [with] loving-kindness, [when] encountering [the] inauspicious, transforming [it to be the] auspicious. Then without disasters [and] difficulties, also attaining [negative] karma’s elimination [with] wisdom clear, [and] obstacles’ exhaustion [with] blessings abundant.
况劝人念佛求生西方,即是成就凡夫作佛,功德最大。以此功德回向往生,必满所愿。
Moreover, [as] encouraging people [to be] mindful [of the] Buddha [to] seek birth [in his] Western [Pure Land], is the same as accomplishing ordinary beings [to] become Buddhas, [these] meritorious virtues [are] most great. With these meritorious virtues dedicating [to be] reborn [there, one will] definitely fulfil that aspired.
