因果偈__
念佛为因，
是心作佛。
成佛为果，
是心是佛。
Verse On Cause & Effect
[With] mindfulness [of] Buddha as cause, this mind becomes Buddha. [With] accomplishment [of] Buddhahood as effect, this mind is Buddha.
念成偈 __
夫今念佛，
生西见佛。
学佛念佛，
直速成佛。
Verse On Mindfulness For Accomplishment
Those now [with] mindfulness [of] Buddha [here, are] born [in his] Western [Pure Land to] see [the] Buddha. Learning [from the] Buddha [personally, with further] mindfulness [of] Buddha [there], directly [and] swiftly accomplishing Buddhahood.
[Note: The two lines are on the two stages of mindfulness of Buddha. The first line is on ordinary beings (凡夫) here. The second line is on those who have reached Pure Land. Being an essential practice, even noble ones (圣者) such as Great Bodhisattvas (大菩萨) in Pure Land continue to practise mindfulness of Buddha. With perfection of it is attainment of Buddhahood. Further learning from the Buddha directly in his perfect school with ideal schoolmates guarantees the swiftest progress.]
