引导与功德偈
Verses On Guidance & Meritorious Virtues
以引导力，
劝信愿行。
自感他力，
得生净土。
With the power of guidance,
urge Faith and Aspiration for Practice.
With Self connecting to Other-power,
attains birth in Pure Land.
以功德力，
消除业障。
免堕三途，
得生善趣。
With the power of meritorious virtues,
eradicate karmic obstacles.
Avoid fall into the three lower paths,
to attain birth in a good realm.
重业已除，
能易引导。
善巧开示，
令生资粮。
With heavy negative karma then eradicated,
it can be easier to offer guidance.
Skilfully offer words of guidance,
to enable giving rise to the Three Provisions.
凡夫功德，
不生净土。
唯三资粮，
得生极乐。
By ordinary beings’ meritorious virtues,
they cannot be born in Pure Land.
Only with the Three Provisions,
attains birth in the Land Of Ultimate Bliss.
开示助念，
起引导力。
念佛亦能，
造功德力。
Offer guidance with support-chanting,
to give rise to the power of guidance.
Mindfulness of Buddha likewise is able,
to create the power of meritorious virtues.*
*These meritorious virtues are from connecting Self to the Buddha’s Other-power, not from ordinary beings alone.
