[34] Pure Land’s Principles And Practices, Cultivation And Nature, Emptiness And Forms

[Sūtra]: Śāriputra, that Buddha Land [is] accomplished [with] such meritorious virtues’ adornments.

【解】: 重重结示,令深信一切庄严,皆导师愿行所成,种智所现;

[Explanation]: [With] layer upon layer, concluding [the] teaching, [to] enable profound Faith [in] all [the] adornments, [they are] all [by our] Guiding Teacher’s vows [and] practices those accomplished, [by his all-knowing] seed wisdom those appearing.

All [are by] our pure karmas those connected, only [by] consciousness those transformed.

[The] Buddha’s mind [and sentient] beings’ minds, are] mutually [like] shadows [and] bodies, like many lamps’ brightness, each [illuminating] everywhere, as if [as] one.

[With] complete principles accomplishing practices, complete practices [are] thus principles, [and with] complete [Mind]-nature giving rise [to] cultivation, complete cultivation [is] in [Mind]-nature, [these] likewise can [be] profoundly contemplated!

How [can there be] departure [from] this Pure Land, [to] separately discuss [about] mind-only Pure Land, [to be] willingly degenerated, [as] those ridiculed [for mistaking a] mouse’s ‘jí[jí]’ [i.e. 唧唧 (squeaking)] [as a] bird’s ‘kōng[kōng]’ [i.e. 空空 (squawking)]?

[Note: ‘即’ also means ‘existence’. Those who misunderstand the squeak (即/唧) represents those who speak of existence (有), but do not understand the principle of Wonderful Existence (妙有) to be the same as True Emptiness (真空).

‘空’ also means ‘emptiness’. Those who misunderstand the squawk (空) represents those who speak of emptiness (空), but do not understand the principle of True Emptiness (真空) to be the same as Wonderful Existence (妙有).

They are thus attached to the Buddha’s physical Pure Land to only be empty, and their mind-only Pure Land (唯心净土) to only exist, not realising they are connected as above.

Likewise, there should not be attachment to the Buddha’s physical Pure Land to only exist, and the mind-only Pure Land to only be empty, also because they are connected as above.]

[The] first Circumstantial Rewards’ Wonders [are] complete.
