[On Mindfulness Of Buddha]
Medical medicine [is] for curing roots of sicknesses, and [the] Dharma medicine of [the Unsurpassable] Great King Of Healers [i.e. Amitābha Buddha, by sincere mindfulness of his name: ‘Āmítuófó’, is] also for curing [the] roots of [negative] karma.
Those [with] sicknesses born from karma [are] many.
[For] those from [the] external affected [to have] internal injuries then attained, medicine [is] able [to] cure of.
Those from karma then born, [that] medicine [is] not able [to] cure, only Dharma medicine [is] able [to] cure of.
[If] able [to] simultaneously [take] worldly medicine [and] Dharma medicine for curing all sicknesses, thus if oneself or others [doing so, all] together [will] obtain true benefits.
[On Eating As Veg(etari)ans]
Eating [as] veg[etari]ans, and [of] threefold pure [meat], should [be] considered [for] practice.
[If] able [to be] pure veg[etari]ans, thus [be] pure veg[etari]ans.
[If] not able, thus [with] threefold pure [meat from animals not seen, heard and suspected to be killed for you is] also permitted. [Note: It is challenging to ensure meat eaten is not suspected to be from your demand, by regular purchase and/or consumption.]
However, [one] should eat more vegetables, [and] eat less meat.
[This] world has foolish people, calling themselves [to] yet [be] pure veg[etari]ans, then [with] ‘relieved’ minds eating much meat, thus [with] their transgressions [becoming] not shallow.
[They] should give rise [to the] Bodhi mind [i.e. Bodhicitta], vowing [to] deliver these sentient beings that [are] eaten.
Thus, not [with] ‘relieved’ minds eating much, [is] thus permitted. [Note: As stated above as the first priority, since it is best to be pure veg(etari)ans, those who eat threefold pure meat should still practise towards being so.]
