Question: Is it true that females cannot attain Buddhahood through Nianfo (practice of mindfulness of Buddha)?
Answer: There will be no gender differences once Amituofo’s (Amitabha Buddha) Pure Land is reached through Nianfo, where non-retrogressible and swiftest progress towards Buddhahood is guaranteed in one lifetime. This is while it will take a long time to practise life after life to transcend gender limitations in Samsara. Males also take a substantially long time to progress towards Buddhahood in Samsara, without reaching Pure Land.
Q: Is it true that practice of the Lotus Sutra is needed for females to attain Buddhahood?
A: In the Lotus Sutra is a case of swift gender transformation from female to male for attaining of Buddhahood, as can be seen at https://thedailyenlightenment.com/2011/05/how-a-dragon-girl-attained-instant-buddhahood However, the dragon girl was already highly realised in advance. As above, it will take a long time to practise life after life to transcend gender limitations in Samsara. Thus, the swiftest way to do so is still via Pure Land, where ALL sutras, including the Lotus Sutra will be mastered in theory and practice, which is hard to do so here in this single lifetime. There are no new Buddhas arising in this Dharma-Ending Age in Samsara, be one male or female.
