[6] [The] Sixth Doubt
[为何一生净土不复恶？]
[Why Once Born In Pure Land, Not Again Evil?]
问：九品之中，下三品多是恶人，止因临终念佛，所以往生。万一既生彼国，仍有邪见三毒，奈何？
Question: Within those Nine Grades, [the] Three Low Grades were mostly evil persons, only because [when] approaching [life’s] end [with] mindfulness [of Āmítuó]fó, [are] therefore reborn. [With] one [in] ten thousand, already born [in] that land, [if they] still have evil views [and the] three poisons, what [can be] done?
答：只愁不生，不愁生后复恶。其中盖有五因缘：
Answer: Only worrying [about] not [being] born, not worrying [about] after birth again evil. Because within it, [there] are five causes [and] conditions.
[1] 一者阿弥陀佛大悲愿力所持故；
[1] First, [with] Āmítuófó’s great compassionate vows’ power that empowers thus.
[2] 二者所愿如意，无所贪求故；
[2] Second, [with] that aspired as wished, without that greedily sought thus.
[3] 三者宝树花鸟，咸宣妙法故；
[3] Third, [with] treasure trees, flowers [and] birds, all proclaiming [the] wonderful Dharma thus.
[4] 四者纯以菩萨为良友，恶缘永断故；
[4] Fourth, purely with Bodhisattvas as good friends, [and] evil conditions forever severed thus.
[5] 五者寿命长远，历劫修持故。
[5] Fifth, [with] lifespans long [and] far[-reaching], passing through kalpas [for] practice thus.
所以一生西方，直至成佛，永不退转，良有以也。
Therefore, once born [in the] Western [Pure Land Of Ultimate Bliss (极乐世界)], directly until accomplishing Buddhahood, forever not retrogressing, [there] are good reasons because [of these].
