劝贪吝者
[8] Encouragement [For] Those Greedy [And] Stingy
得人三千而不以为多者，贪也；自费两千而遂以为多者，吝也。
Those getting [from] people three thousand, yet not with [this] as much [are] greedy. Those personally spending two thousand, yet with [this] as much [are] stingy.
贪吝之失，众人所同而不自觉。若能去此，方为贤者。
Of [the] losses [of being] greedy [and] stingy, all people [have] those [the] same, yet [are] not personally aware [of them]. If able [to] remove these, then as those virtuous.
如是则善业无不可为，恶业无不可戒。何则？不吝财以为善、不贪财以为恶故也。若如是以修净土，必不在下品生矣。
Thus then [are] good karmas without [those that] cannot [be] done, [and] evil karmas without [those that] must not [be] abstained [from]. Why then? Not [being] stingy [with] wealth, [it is] with [this] as good. Not greedy [for] wealth, [it is] with [this] as evil thus. If thus, with [this] cultivating [the] Pure Land [path, one will] definitely not [be] in [a] Low Grade born.
又能转以化人，使更相劝化，人则以己无贪吝之心，必加尊敬而乐从其化，所化必广。上品往生，复何疑哉！
Also able [to in] turn with [this] transform people, enabling even more [to] encourage [and] transform one another, people [are] then with themselves without [the] mind of greed [and] stinginess, definitely [with] additional respect and joy from those transformed, [with] those transformed definitely vast. [In a] High Grade reborn, again, how [can there be] doubt?
生前之福报，亦可立而见矣。此不可以言尽，行者当自知之。
Of blessed virtues while living, [they] likewise can [be] established and seen. [Of] these [that] cannot [be] spoken [of] completely, practitioners should personally know them.
[原眉批：贪吝不已，入饿鬼道。财物本空，回头趁早。]
[Original headnotes: (With) greed (and) stinginess endless, (one) enters (the) hungry ghost path. (As) wealth (and) property (are) fundamentally empty, turn (your) head as soon as possible.]
