善根为因，福德为缘
[With] Good Roots As Cause, [And With] Blessed Virtues As Condition
【疏】：因缘者，清凉以亲能发起为因，假之助发为缘，今此复有二义：一者，善根为因，福德为缘；二者，善福各有因缘。
[Commentary]: [On] that cause [and] condition, [Great Master] Qīngliáng [was] with [that] personally able [to] give rise [to], as cause, [and] if [there is] that supporting [to] give rise, as condition. Now, this again has two meanings. First, [with] good roots as cause, [and with] blessed virtues as condition. Second, good [and] blessings each has cause [and] condition.
【钞】：善因福缘者，菩提善根，入道正因，如诸经言：「不发正觉菩提之心，虽行六度万行，经恒沙劫，终不成佛。」故知万善之所根本，是之谓因。然须一切福德助成菩提，以福济慧，以事实理，辅翼入道，是之谓缘。
[Collected Writings]: That [on] good [as] cause [and] blessings [as] condition, [is with] Bodhi’s good root, [as] entering [the] path’s right cause. Like many sūtras say, ‘Not giving rise [to the] mind of Right Awakening [to] Bodhi, although practising [the] Six Perfections [and] ten thousand practices, passing Ganges’ sands [of] kalpas, [in the] end not accomplishing Buddhahood.’ Thus know that [the] root of ten thousand good [practices], is that called cause. However, needing all blessed virtues’ support [to] accomplish Bodhi, with blessings aiding wisdom, with practice truly [realising the] principle, assisting entering [of the] path, [they] are that called condition.
各有因缘者，善根福德，其所由来，从何发心，均名曰因。而善根发起，必有种种善缘为助，福德发起，必有种种福缘为助，是各有其缘也。
That [on] each having cause [and] condition, good roots [and] blessed virtues, [from] their places [of] origin, from where [they are] given rise, [are] all named [as] causes. And [for] good roots [to be] given rise, definitely having all kinds [of] good conditions as support, [and for] blessed virtues [to be] given rise, definitely having all kinds [of] blessings’ conditions as support, [these] are each having their conditions too.
