Question: Is mindfulness of the sacred name of Amitā[bha] Buddha (i.e. Āmítuófó) only beneficial when approaching the end of life?
Answer: According to the ‘Sūtra [In Which The] Buddha Speaks [Of] Amitā[bha] Buddha’s Fundamental Esoteric Spiritual Mantra’, of the ten great benefits from mindfulness of Buddha listed below, the first nine are able to directly benefit this present life. As the true benefits of mindfulness of Buddha are immeasurably boundless, the sūtra also says, ‘Such meritorious virtues, cannot be named or calculated [completely].’
Transform poverty and lowliness, to obtain wealth and honour.
Attain fruit of being spared from being pursued by suffering of sickness from past karma.
Transform short lifespans to attain lengthened lifespans.
Have enemies transform their hatred.
Attain children, grandchildren and prosperity.
Receive incomparable peace and bliss of body and mind.
Attain fulfilment according to wishes.
Have many transgressions eradicated.
Cultivate much good roots and blessed virtues.
When these persons’ lives are ending, their minds will not be inverted, and will immediately attain rebirth in Amitābha Buddha’s Pure Land Of Ultimate Bliss.
