但既念佛求生西方，必须发慈悲心，行方便事。
However, since mindful [of] Buddha [for] seeking birth [in his] Western [Pure Land, there] must [be] giving rise [to the] mind [of] loving-kindness [and] compassion, [to] practise matters [with] skilful means [to help others do the same].
息贪瞋痴，戒杀盗淫，自利利人，方合佛意。
Extinguishing greed, hatred [and] delusion, abstaining [from] killing, stealing, sexual [misconduct and lying, and to] self-benefit [and] benefit others, [this] then accords [with the] Buddha’s wish [of what we should do].
否则心与佛背，感应道隔。
Otherwise, [with our] minds and [the] Buddha’s contradicting, [the] path [of] connection [for] response [will be] separated [from].
但种来因，难获现果矣。
Only planting [a] future cause, [it will be] difficult [to] obtain [the] present fruit [of being born in Pure Land].
