Question: Can Nianfo (practice of mindfulness of the name of Amitabha Buddha – ‘Amituofo’) help overcome my impatience in listening to others?
Answer: Impatience is a form of greed for things to go your preferred speed (or way) and thus hatred for otherwise. It is thus a mix of the first two of the three poisons (greed, hatred and delusion).
All defilements arise from the three (or five poisons), which can all be eradicated by Nianfo practice, as can be seen at https://purelanders.com/2016/02/24/how-does-nianfo-eradicate-our-five-poisons/
Impatience with others is also impatience with oneself. Nianfo can overcome impatience if you commit to sincere, regular, diligent and PATIENT Nianfo practice. Practise listening to yourself Nianfo sincerely and you will learn to live in the moment patiently. This will in turn help you to be sincere and patient when listening to others. To train to be more patient, extend your Nianfo practice accordingly.
