Question: In Amituofo’s Pure Land, we will be able to see how our loved ones are doing, as empowered by Amituofo’s vows. Will this lead to attachment that disturbs us from learning the Dharma, especially when we know they are suffering?
Answer: Pure Land’s environment, being pure with the protective blessings of Amituofo, will not spur rise of the Three Poisons, of greed (attachment), hatred (aversion) and delusion.
There will only be equanimous compassion with wisdom arising. As such, we will be able to learn and practise the Dharma steadily and diligently to best help all sentient beings, all of whom have been our loving family members before, due to the many interconnected rounds of rebirths in the past. These connections will be seen clearly too.
There will not be particular attachment to specific ones, but universal compassion for all. We will not become disturbed as we will know calmly and clearly, that it is precisely because there is so much suffering elsewhere, and that the only sensible thing to do is to cultivate well, so as to really be able to help lead all to liberation. The option to depart from Pure Land earlier to fulfil personal vows with time constraints is available too, with ability to return to Pure Land at any time for further learning and practice.
