[46] Top Ten Advantages Of PPF Three-Hour Niànfó Retreats 十大净行会三小时闭关念佛之优点 Ten Retreat Dos & Don’ts 十条静修须知 More Motivators 更多激励因素

[1] Settling: No physical movement for prostration or circumambulation is needed, making it easier to settle the mind. Retreat is minimal in structure for maximising effective and swift peaceful abiding upon Āmítuófó’s name (安住佛号). Inspiring Āmítuófó image is available for all to see at all times too.

[2] Dressing: No inconvenient and perhaps unwieldy uniform (like Hǎiqīng [海青] and Mànyī [缦衣]) is needed. Personal discreet, comfortable and adjustable clothing will do.

[3] Breaks: Restroom and drink breaks are at will. There can be standing, stretching and half-bowing at any time too, if too stiff or drowsy.

[4] Food-Free: No need to bother about and be distracted by meal-time. No need to worry about potential drowsiness after meals.

[5] Duration: The duration is neither too short nor long in a single go, with it taught as the minimal for post-death support-chanting (往生助念), thus preparing for it. This also prepares for one’s own departure.

[6] Energy: Retreat is the least tiring possible, most energy conserving, and even energising with seamless guided Niànfó. The shortest format of the Buddha’s name is used, with four words only, which is also the one to be used on the deathbed: https://purelanders.com/mp3.

[7] Comfort: Comfortable chair (with backrest) is available, with optional personal cushion for chair and/or floor for stability. There can be sitting on the floor too.

[8] Motivation: Niànfó reminders and motivational tips are shared at the beginning. This is an opportunity to revise how to Niànfó well, which will reinvigorate Niànfó in everyday life too.

[9] Resolution: Sharing of experiences and resolving of doubts are available after, for encouragement and fortifying one another’s faith.

[10] Review: Reviews are welcome for suggestions to improve future retreats together.

[1] Do not reserve seats for others; just stick to yours chosen.

[2] Do turn off or silent your phone. Maintain noble silence at all times, unless practising Niànfó verbally.

[3] Do not recite louder than the guiding track.

[4] Do not use beads or counter, to reduce sound and personal distractions.

[5] Do return immediately after restroom breaks.

[6] Do wear mask if needed, and cover mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.

[7] Do not leave early without informing.

[8] Do treasure every moment in this retreat to Niànfó as sincerely as you can.

[9] Do open and close doors quietly and fully.

[10] Do not take items in and out of noisy plastic bags.

[i] Limit Of Opportunities: As there is a limited number of opportunities in your limited number of years alive for joining Niànfó retreats, to build confidence with personal practice, this opportunity should be treasured by using it well.

[ii] Clearing Of Karmic Obstacles: As Universal Virtue Bodhisattva (普贤菩萨) taught, our evil karmas are immeasurable. If they have forms, exhausting empty space’s realms, they are not able to contain them… Yet, we already know this wonderful method to eliminate evil karmas efficiently through sincere Niànfó, with each recitation eliminating eighty koṭis’ kalpas’ transgressions of births and deaths. The retreat is an opportunity to clear as many karmic obstacles as we can, on behalf of others to some extent too, with dedication.

[iii] Synergy Of Blessings: Beyond requesting listing of loved ones’ names for dedication of meritorious virtues, it is best to join the retreat to practise sincere Niànfó personally, to create more meritorious virtues together, with the inconceivable power of collective cultivation (共修的力量). More blessings can be created for peace of mind and world peace too.

[iv] Offerings To Buddhas: The best offerings we can make to the Buddhas is our sincere Dharma practice. There is probably no easier way to make this offering than with Niànfó, that is immediately spiritually fulfilling in the moment too.
