How Can The Heavens’ Below Be Without Wars’ Disasters?

With [that] power of mine, [having] bullying of those weak. With [the] meat of those, filling [that] stomach of mine. Only considering [for] one time, [that] ‘suitable’ [for my] taste, who believes [this will] pass kalpas [to be] repaid?

[The] Śūraṅgama Sūtra says, ‘With humans eating goats, [with the] goats dying as humans [reborn, and with the] humans dying as goats [reborn]’, thus, and even [so for beings with the] ten kinds of births [i.e. those with egg birth (卵生), womb birth (胎生), moisture birth (湿生), transformation birth (化生), having form birth (有色生), having perception birth (有想生), not having form birth (非有色生), not without form birth (非无色生), not having perception birth (非有想生), and not without perception birth (非无想生)], ‘Death [after] death [and] birth [after] birth, mutually coming [to] eat one another, [with] evil karmas together arising, exhausting [the] future’s limit.’

Ancient virtuous [ones] say, ‘[If] desiring [to] attain, [the] heavens’ below, [to be] without wars’ disasters, [it is] only when sentient beings [do] not eat meat.’

Also saying, ‘[If] desiring [to] know [the] world’s weapons [and] wars’ disasters, [there] must [be] listening [to] slaughterhouses’ doors’ midnight screams.’

Already having this cause, [there] must [be] attracting [of] this effect. [If] not contemplating [to] then end [this, is] contemplating [of] that greatly fearful.
