作大丈夫，众生之大导师
[36] Become [A] Person [Of] Great Character, [A] Great Guiding Teacher Of [All] Sentient Beings
今为彼寄《安士全书》一部，祈于“吾一十七世为士大夫身”一段注及证，并《万善先资》，《欲海回狂》，《西归直指》，各书之问答辨惑处，详细研阅，方不致自己把自己当做无根之人。
Now, for [you] those sent, [is] one volume [of] ‘Ānshì’s Complete Book’, imploring [you to], in [the] one section [of] ‘My Seventeen Lives As [A] Scholar-Official’s notes and proofs, furthermore [with] ‘Ten Thousand Goodnesses’ First Provision’, ‘[From] Desires’ Ocean Returning [From] Madness’ [and] ‘Western Return’s Direct Pointers’, [in] each book’s part [with] questions [and] answers [for] recognising [and removing] confusions, detailedly study [and] read [them], then not leading to yourself having yourself regarded as [a] person of no roots.
虽暂活几十年，一死便消灭无有，岂不可怜之极？若知身死而神不灭，则其为寿也，何止天长地久？
Although temporarily living [for] several decades [of] years, once dead, then eliminated [to be] non-existent, how can it be this pitiful [to the] extreme? If knowing [that the] body dies, yet [the] consciousness [does] not cease, then it is long life too, far more than [the] heavens [being] long [and the] earth [being] lasting.
若肯修持，求生西方，则尽未来际作一切众生之大导师，岂不伟然大丈夫哉？
If willing [to] practise, [to] seek birth [in the] Western [Pure Land Of Ultimate Bliss], then exhausting [the] future’s limit, becoming [a] great guiding teacher of all sentient beings, how can [you] not [be an] outstanding person [of] great character?
