谛观自他身,息贪爱念佛
[107] Closely Contemplate Oneself [And] Others’ Bodies, [To] Cease Greedy Attachment [For] Mindfulness [Of] Buddha
贪者,见境而心起爱乐之谓。欲界众生,皆由淫欲而生,淫欲由爱而生。
[The] meaning of that greed, [is when] seeing realms [of objects], then [with the] mind giving rise [to] attachment [and] joy. [This] desire realm’s sentient beings, [are] all due [to] lustful desires then born, [and] lustful desires [are] due [to] attachment then arising.
若能将自身他身,从外至内,一一谛观,则但见垢汗涕唾、发毛爪齿、骨肉脓血、大小便利,臭同死尸,污如圊厕。谁于此物,而生贪爱?
If able [to be] with one’s own body [and] others’ bodies, from [the] external to [the] internal, [with] each [and every] one [part] closely contemplated, then only seeing dirt, sweat, mucus, spittle, hair, nails, teeth, bones, flesh, pus, blood, faeces [and] urine, [to be] smelly like corpses, [and] dirty like toilets, who [will] for these objects, then give rise [to] greedy attachment?
贪爱既息,则心地清净。以清净心,念佛名号。
[With] greedy attachment since ceased, then [will the] mind ground [be] pure. With [the] pure mind, [be] mindful [of the] Buddha’s name [i.e. Āmítuófó].
如甘受和,如白受采。以因地心,契果地觉。事半功倍,利益难思。
Like [that] sweet receiving harmonising, [and] like [that] white receiving colouring. With [the] causal ground’s mind, agreeing [with the] fruit ground’s awakening. [With] efforts halved [and] results doubled, [the] benefits [are] difficult [to] contemplate.
