[233] Redemption From Natural Disasters’ And Human-Made Misfortunes’ Foremost Wonderful Method

[233] Redemption [From] Natural Disasters’ [And] Human-Made Misfortunes’ Foremost Wonderful Method

Within all evil karmas, killing alone [is the] most heavy.

[Note 1: Killing is the heaviest transgression as it is most directly destructive, with the destroying of sentient beings’ lives, that most cherished by them.]

Universally under [the] heavens, [it is] nearly without people [who have] not created killing’s karma. Even if [for] all [of] one’s life not having killed [a] life, yet every day eating meat, [this is] then, [to] every day kill lives.

[Note 2: There might be those who accidentally kill, while there are many more who indirectly ‘kill’, by continually demanding the flesh of killed animals, meal after meal, day after day.]

With no killing, definitely not having meat thus, with [the efforts of] butchers, hunters, fisher[men, they are] all for supplying those demands of meat-eaters, then representing, for them [doing] killing.

[Note 3: When there is less demand for meat, there will be less killing for meat. When there is no demand for meat, there will be no killing for meat.]

That being the case then, [to] eat meat [or to] eat [as] veg[etari]ans, [at this] one pass, [this] truly [is] for our ascending [or] sinking. [As the] root [of the] heaven’s below, [for its] order [or] chaos, [this is] not [a] small matter.

[Note 4: To kill or to demand killing is to sink karmically, be it individually or collectively, into chaos due to great evil karmas (恶业) created. To not kill or not demand killing is to ascend karmically, be it individually or collectively, into order due to great good karmas (善业) created.]

Those [who] have self-cherishing [of] their bodies, simultaneously cherishing [the] people below [the] heavens, desiring [to] enable [all to have] longevity, peace [and] bliss, [to] not suffer [from] accidents [and] disasters, should with abstaining [from] killing, eat [as] veg[etari]ans. For redemption [from] natural disasters [and] human-made misfortunes, this [is the] foremost wonderful method.

[Note 5: Individually and collectively, to not kill, and to eat as veg(etari)ans, there will karmically be more longevity, peace and bliss, with less accidents, disasters and misfortunes. Doing the opposite, by having more killing and meat-eating, there will karmically be shorter lives, with more suffering from accidents, disasters and misfortunes.]
