Selections From Nāgārjuna Bodhisattva’s Aspiration Verses
若人欲疾至，
不退转地者，
应以恭敬心，
执持称名号。…
If people desire [to] swiftly reach,
that non-retrogressible ground [for progress to Buddhahood],
[they] should with reverent minds,
[faithfully and] firmly uphold recitation [of Āmítuófó’s] name…
阿弥陀等佛，
及诸大菩萨，
称名一心念，
亦得不退转。…
[Of] Āmítuó[fó and] other Buddhas,
and all Great Bodhisattvas,
[with] recitation [of their] name[s with] wholehearted mindfulness,
likewise attains non-retrogression…
人能念是佛，
无量力威德，
即时入必定，
是故我常念。…
[As] people [who are] able [to be] mindful [of] this Buddha,
[who has] immeasurable power [and] majestic virtues,
[will] immediately enter [the] definite [assembly for Buddhahood],
therefore [am] I constantly mindful [of his name]…
若人愿作佛，
心念阿弥陀，
应时为现身，
是故我归命。…
[As] if people [who] aspire [to] become Buddhas,
[with their] minds mindful of Āmítuófó[‘s name],
immediately for [them will he] manifest [his] body,
therefore [do] I take refuge for life [in him]…
十方现在佛，
以种种因缘，
叹彼佛功德，
我今归命礼。…
[As the] ten directions’ present Buddhas,
with all kinds [of] causes [and] conditions,
praise that Buddha’s meritorious virtues,
I now take refuge for life [in him and] prostrate [to him]…
我今亦如是，
称赞无量德，
以是福因缘，
愿佛常念我。
I now likewise thus,
praise [Āmítuófó’s] immeasurable virtues,
with these blessings [as] causes [and] conditions,
may [the] Buddha always [be] mindful [of] me.
