头燃偈
Verses [On] Head Burning
早已入末法时期，
不修念佛了无期。
不愿生西求正法，
空欲成佛无别法。
Already long [having] entered [this] Dharma-Ending Age, [if] not cultivating mindfulness [of] Buddha, liberation [is] without [a] date. [If] not aspiring [to be] born [in the] Western [Pure Land, to] seek [the] Right Dharma [Age, it is with an] empty desire [to] accomplish Buddhahood, without another way.
[Note 1: The year 2021 C.E. is already 1,548 years or 15.48% into the 10,000-year Dharma-Ending Age (末法时期), after which there will be no more Dharma in our world. Maitreya Bodhisattva (弥勒菩萨) will only arrive to manifest Buddhahood and teach the Right Dharma (正法) here about 5.6 billion years later.
Note 2: As taught in the ‘Immeasurable Life Sūtra’《无量寿经》, the Pure Land (净土) Dharma Door Of Mindfulness Of Buddha (念佛法门) (i.e. Āmítuófó: 阿弥陀佛) will be the last feasible practice for liberation in this era, as further ensured by Śākyamuni Buddha (释迦牟尼佛) to outlast the Dharma-Ending Age by 100 more years.]
平时轮回已头燃，
此时末法头更燃。
劝君即刻诚学佛，
急急念佛生佛国。
[In] ordinary times reborn, already [with our] heads ‘burning’, [due to impending physical death, in this] Dharma-Ending Age, [with our] heads ‘burning’ even [more, due to impending spiritual ‘death’]. Urging you [to] immediately [and] sincerely learn [the] Buddha’s [teachings, to] urgently [and] quickly [be] mindful [of] Buddha, [to be] born [in the] Buddha’s land.
[Note 3: As taught in ‘Universal Virtue Bodhisattva’s Verse For Admonition Of The Masses’《普贤菩萨警众偈》, ‘You should be diligent, like saving your head from burning. Only be mindful of impermanence, and be careful not to be unrestrained.’ (当勤精进，如救头燃，但念无常，慎勿放逸！)
Note 4: More important than saving our physical lives (身命) is to save our spiritual (or wisdom) lives (慧命), as physical life can always take on another form when reborn, while it is with a sufficiently healthy spiritual life, that there can be liberation from repetitive suffering of birth, ageing, sickness and death (生老病死) through future physical lives’ forms.]
