Verses [On] Quick Accomplishment [Of] Buddhahood
All Buddhas tell Bodhisattvas, [to] enable [them to] meet [the Land Of] Peaceful Nurturing’s Buddha, [to] hear [the] Dharma [and] joyfully receive practices, [to] swiftly attain purity’s position.
[Note 1: As all Buddhas hope that all beings will be Bodhisattvas, this verse addresses not only Bodhisattvas, but all other beings too. Not only does Śākyamuni Buddha (释迦牟尼佛) encourage us to reach Amitābha Buddha’s (i.e. Āmítuófó: 阿弥陀佛) Pure Land (净土), for blissful learning and practice, to swiftly attain enlightenment (and creation of Pure Lands), out of their perfect compassion, wisdom and skilful means, all other Buddhas encourage all others to do so too. (‘Purity’s position’ [清净处] refers to realisation of Nirvāṇa’s [寂灭] equanimous Dharma [平等法], [i.e. the truth that all can become Buddhas], of the Eight Ground [八地] and above, which guarantee non-retrogressive progress towards Buddhahood.)]
Reaching that majestic Pure Land, then quickly attaining supernormal [powers], definitely from [the] Immeasurable Honoured [One], receiving predictions [of] accomplishing Equal Awakening.
[Note 2: These powers are enabled by Āmítuófó to maximise reach of the senses, for learning, practising and mastering the Dharma inside and outside of his Pure Land, for realising Buddhahood. As to receive predictions of accomplishing Buddhahood from a Buddha on the behalf of all immeasurable Buddhas is to definitely attain it accordingly in good time, this verse confirms the confirmation of Buddhahood via reach of his Pure Land.]
(Immeasurable Life Sūtra)
Verses [On The] Foremost
All true Buddhas’ disciples’ foremost great aspiration, [is to] most quickly accomplish Buddhahood, [to] deliver all sentient beings.
[Note 3: All truest disciples of the Buddhas will give rise to the Bodhi Mind (i.e. Bodhicitta: 菩提心), as this is what they wish all to do, so as to swiftly begin walking the path towards Buddhahood, to completely liberate one and all. As there is no greater spiritual aspiration, this is the foremost one. If yet to give rise to it, they should swiftly work towards doing so.]
Rebirth [in the Pure Land Of] Ultimate Bliss, [this] foremost place [of practising the] path, [is] most quickly able [to] fulfil, this foremost aspiration.
[Note 4: Even aspiring to reach Āmítuófó’s Pure Land with openness to accomplish the above in Note 3 is a form of Bodhicitta. We know his Pure land is the foremost place for swiftly mastering the path to Buddhahood as all Buddhas encourage all to reach it, as stated in Note 1 above.]
