Why Pure Lands Must Exist
It is perfectly natural
that there are immeasurable beings
who have perfected their compassion and wisdom,
who have become Buddhas.
The historical Buddha was one of them, who taught us so.
It is perfectly natural
that Buddhas, with their immeasurable compassion and wisdom,
would create ideal schools
to better teach us to become Buddhas like them.
These are called Pure Lands.
It is perfectly natural
that Buddhas, with their perfect and immeasurable compassion and wisdom,
would altogether recommend the one Pure Land
to best teach us to become Buddhas.
This is called Āmítuófó’s (阿弥陀佛) Western Pure Land Of Ultimate Bliss (西方极乐世界).
