The higher you aim
(in terms of grade of birth in Pure Land),
the higher you will reach,
even if you do not reach as high as expected.
The lower you aim,
the lower you will reach,
possibly missing the target altogether
(or even missing the lowest grade of birth)!
Don’t practise the minimum.
Just practise as well as you can to be born there.
Don’t expect perfect practice too,
as Pure Land is for the imperfect us to perfect ourselves.
